The above is a list of Miami Indians who arrived here
on the 5th of November 1846, and are placed under
my changes by Joseph Sinclair [illegible][illegible]
of their emigration. They hearing [illegible][illegible] from

Agreeable to instruction from you I have
accompanied the Miami Indians in their
emigration from Peru, Ia. to [illegible] Mo.
From careful observation I can state that
the contractors have amply provided the Indians
with provisions for their subsistence on the route,
of good quality, and entirely satisfactory to the
Indians themselves. No complaint of
scarcity of provision has been made by any Indian
within my knowledge, to which the contractors
have not immediately attended- and I am
acquainted with many [illegible] in which the
Indians [illegible] with abundance have wasted
much of their provisions.

the trip was a long one, and seven of
the ponies, which were old and very poor, when
they started gave out, and four of [illegible][illegible]
died; one we sold for one dollar; another for five
dollars; and another for two dollars, they were
unable to travel, and it was thought to be
advisable by a sale to save something for the owner.
I have rendered an account of these sales
to the Indians, and am directed to pay over the
proceeds of the sales to the proper persons.
Two of the ponies were stolen near Fairview,
Illinois, from one encampment during the night.
The residue, ninety in number were delivered
over to the Indians as aforesaid

I was employed by the contractor
for emigration of the Miami Indians to drive
the ponies belonging to the emigrating Miamis
from Indiana to the mouth of the [illegible] river
in the state of Missouri. I had the services
of eleven men who were employed by the
contractor to [illegible] in driving and managing
the ponies; I was furnished with money by the
contractor to defray the expense of the trip
including the subsistence requisite for the ponies.
We left Peru, Indiana with the ponies on the
7th day of October, and arrived at the mouth
of the [illegible] river, and on their arrival there they
were delivered to their new homes here where they arrived
this day. From the day we started from Peru
until our arrival here, why attention in our
power was paid to the proper feeding, and care
of the ponies under our charge, and the means
furnished by this contract for that purpose were

I have the honour to enclose
herewith a list of Miami Indians delivered
over to [illegible] A.J. Vaughan sub agent, with
the statement of Wallace B. White
in relation to the [illegible] of the Indians
on their [illegible], and the statement of Jo
J. compared of the Mannes in which the
Poneys belonging to the emigrating Miamis
were cared for during the trip. [illegible]
[illegible] for me to state that in getting
the poneys standed in the [illegible] some
of them escaped, the Indians think the
number was nineteen. Whatever the number
may be I presume they will easily
be found.
It will be seen that the number
of Indians on the list as certified to by
Cal Vaughan, exceeds by eight the number
repeated by me as faming the emigrating
[illegible], and that as there occured seven
deaths ceed two births during the emi-
gration, it appears that thirteen Indians
had got on board the canal boats of [illegible]
