the emigrating Miamies left the mouth of Kansas River on Monday the 2d inst, and they have been arriving here during yesterday & today, a portion of them rode their poneys, and they [ae-idue] with the baggage was brought through by the contractor in waggens.
[We] had one more death on the 3d. ( a boy of about 16) he had been a long time sick and was improving in health until by imprudence he brought about a [illagible], this [illagible] in all, seven deaths that have occurred during the emigration.
on the 4th I sent an [express] to Col Vaughan with a letter from me [-horting] my arrival here, and soliciting his early attention to the acception of the Miamies, and hopes soon to have the pleasure of making his acquaintance; and of handing [illagible] to him the Indians under my charge in compliance with your directions.

I have in my hands the [nem] of #220, which was furnished for the purpose of purchasing iron and steel for [shop] for Miamies.
at the time I left the Miami country [west] Col Vaughan had not received his [tabular] statement or any order [on] [my] for [means], and I thought it best to take the money to St. Louis and pay it [illagible] to the superintendant then- on my arrival at St. Louis I called at the office of the superintendant and was informed that [Mai] [Karvey] was absent. I purposed to pay [illagible] the money to [Mai] [Karvey] the [cleck] in the office, but was informed by him that he was not authorized to give me a receipt for it and advised me to bring money with me and [little] with your office for it.-- Now what shall I do with it?-- I can pay it [illagible] to the [Reciever] here; I can forward a draft to Washington and have it arranged then, or I can deposit it in one of the good [illagible], but the expense of doing so would seem too great.
