I herewisth enclose you a letter from
Francis Lafountain the principal chief
of the Miami Nation of Indians.
 
As it regards his request that his relatives may be permitted to remain with him in the country they now occupy, and draw their annuities there, I will remark that Lafountain married the favourite Daughter of the late Chief Richardville, whose family are permitted to remain. Lafountain has relatives and connexions to the number of thirty four and he is exceedingly anxious that they may be permitted to remain with him, as is the custom amongst the Indians they consider themselves as one family, reckoning with much pride upon their relationships or connexions with the Chief of the tribe.

Should the chief be gratified in this respect he will esteem it a singular favor. I have given him no encouragement, but I feel an interest in obtaining for this application your favourable consideration.
