Adjutant General's Office, Washington, October 10th, 1846. Captain: Your letter of the 1st instant has been duly submitted, and in reply I have to inform you that the Secretary of War authorizes you to use your discretion in the matter of calling out a mounted company of volunteers at Fort Wayne, Indiana to aid in the removal of the Miami Indians to their new homes West of the Mississippi. Should you consider it indispensable to the accomplishment of this object to muster the Company into the service of the United States the act will be approved. I have the honor to be Ser. Very respectfully, Your obedient servant To, Capt. W. R. Jouett, 1st Infantry, Peru, Indiana
