doubtless like to be removed west again in anticipation of the payment of annuity for the present year, at the expense of the contractors -- but the injustice of this will be so apparent that it needs only to be mentioned to the department to secure to the  contractors a release from any such supposed obligation. The fact is, all these Indians refused last year to remove except those who went. all had the offer and by hiding and escaping out of the country they could not be compelled to go when the rest were taken. There were some 30 on 35 of the Indians who emigrated last fall, returned to Indiana after the the payment, would it be justice to require of the contractors to remove them west again? 

You also say in that letter that the [ineligible] above of the physician of the emigration has yet to be settled or paid out & the balance retained by the government on the contract. I settled with the physician and have his receipt "in full for his [service] as physician to the Miami emigration " 

As [to] the settlement with Maj Sinclear, I would say I have not yet settled with him, because he was absent from Ft Wayne at the time I was settilng with the partners in the contracts. [ineligible], he called on judge Ewing for a settlement on the return from the west but Judge Ewing had no authority to settle with him as I was the active partner in the emigration having it solely in my contract. 

I paid Maj. Sinclear 418$ as superintendent of Emigration for which I hold his receipts. Will you have the goodness to send me the amount you have
