Personally appeared before me the undersigned an acting notary Public in and for said county, Byron D. Miner of lawfull age, and a creditable citizen, who being duly sworn deposeth and saith That he speaks the Miami language so as to understand them in common Business; and that he is acquainted with most of the Indians of the Waw we assee party--

--That they lived in said county of Whitley, or most of them near George Williams, about 4 miles west of Columbia in said county; that in August 1846 this deponant conversed with several of them about Emigrating West [illeg] that they expressed a determination not to go; and that about the last of <s>August</s>, said month of August they went off, and [illg] themselves, and some as this deponant believes went to the state of Michigan to keep out of the way and avoid being Removed.

About the last of September last, this deponant saw two horse teams that came out to remove them, and that at that time most of said party with the Pigeon Family of the Turtle Town Party had fled and secreted themselves.

In said month of August <s>Deponant was at</s> or July last, this Deponant was at Ko-assees village on Eel River where many of said Indians had assembled & they then, or many of them expressed a determination not to Remove West.
