Harvey was absent. I purposed to pay over the money to Mr. Haverty, the clerk in the office, but was informed by him that he was not authorized to give me a receipt for it and advised me to bring money with me and settle with your office for it.-- Now what shall I do with it?-- I can pay it over to the [Receiver] here; I can forward a draft to Washington and have it arranged then, or I can deposit it in one of the Govt. Depositories, but the expense of doing so would seem too great.
