Fort wayne [Des] 1 1846 Sir I have returned from my trip west with the Miami Indians, and [beg] leave to trouble you with the following statement. I purposed to pay [] [the] money to [Me] [Baunty] [the] [cleek] in the affairs, but was informed by him that he was not [] to give me a receipt for it and advised me to bring money with me and [little] [with] your [] for it.-- Now what shall I do with it?-- I can pay it [] to the [Ree---] []; I can forward a draft to Washington and have it arranged then, [] I can deposit it in one of the good [], but the expense of doing so would seem too great. the contractor for removing the Miamies [] to allow me for expenses while employed in the [emigration], or on my return home after the emigration was completed, in consequence of which no settlement has been had with them either my salary or expenses.
