the Honorable the secretary at war

Sir I understand that a small portion of the miamie tribe of Indians will move south of the Missourie River shortly and as I expected that it would be necessary to furnish said Indians with rations for twelve months, I should like to get the contract. Should I not be able to get the contract I should like to get a situation in the removal of them or act as commissary to see that the Have the full benefit of their rations, will you confer a favour ^on me^ by taking this matter into consideration I wish to leave on tomorrow, and will accordingly call and pay my Respects to you previous to my departure.

Respectfully Your obdt Servt John McKee

The Hon. J. M. Porter Secretary at War
